Upcoming events and recent community gatherings

Hi friends,

Join us for two community events in March!

On Tuesday, March 18, from 6-8pm MIO’s Lewiston Leadership Group is hosting a community Open Mic “Time Served” at Recovery Connections of Maine, 103 Park Street in Lewiston. The Open Mic will feature musician Esvin Perez, performances by MIO artists, and open sign up for community performers!

On Wednesday, March 26, MIO’s 2025 Broken Clock Tour kicks off with a free public performance at the University of Maine Farmington at 6:30pm. Check out the event page for more information about the performance and to reserve a ticket.

Both March events are at ADA accessible venues. Please reach out to admin@maineinsideout.org to request specific accommodations.

MIO is currently booking performances of Broken Clock across the State of Maine and beyond. If you are interested to host or partner on a performance please contact admin@maineinsideout.org. Check out the trailer and booking sheet for more information. The 2025 Broken Clock tour is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

MIO’s Lewiston Community Group (pictured above) visited Recovery Connections of Maine (RCOM) this week to plan for the upcoming Open Mic. The “Never Forgotten” board was created by Recovery Connections and Maine Inside Out during a block party September 2018 to honor people the community has lost to addiction. In the words of RCOM CEO Jeremy Hiltz, this is why we do this work. We are honored to partner with RCOM for the March 18 Open Mic “Time Served.”

Leaders from the community group also attended a community meeting hosted by Lewiston’s Transformation Action Group (TAG) to give input on updating goals for the City of Lewiston. MIO community artist Hassan Hassan and staff member Tyler Jackson presented on goals related to lead abatement and youth wellbeing. Thank you to the TAG members for hosting this session!

On February 18, MIO’s “Landing Pad” community of statewide artists met at the MIO site to break bread, create art, and dialogue with a system-impacted speaker. The speaker this month was Anthony Rembert who spoke about his experiences of racism in Maine schools, his path to incarceration, and his current journey of reentry and recovery.

MIO’s “Landing Pad” project offers support, mentorship, and emergency funding to members for a range of personal crises and challenges. MIO has provided high levels of crisis support this Winter by connecting members with funding, housing resources, legal counsel, system advocacy, mentorship, and more. The connection to community and trust that “Landing Pad” members have to ask each other and MIO staff for support is vital for the young adults and families involved with MIO.

MIO Co-Executive Directors Chiara, Joseph, and Noah attended a conference hosted by Nellie Mae Education Foundation in Quincy, MA. This was an incredible opportunity to connect with organizations from across New England and participate in ecosystem mapping, capacity building exercises, and relationship building. MIO’s entire staff team will participate in Nellie Mae’s Capacity Building Accelerator program facilitated by Bridgespan. Thank you Nellie Mae and Bridgespan for this opportunity and support.
