A World Without Prisons Recap + Welcome Morgan

How do we build a world without prisons?
A world of relationship and connection, instead of silos and cells?

Last Wednesday night, 40 youth artists and organizers from Maine Inside Out and Maine Youth Justice presented “A New Perspective: A World Without Prisons.” We shared a collective vision, built and articulated by each artist, for a world without prisons and concrete action steps to move towards this world. Thank you to everyone who joined us on zoom (over 200 people) and many more on our Facebook Live stream. This is a collective transformation and we need each other.

Do you hear it?
The sounds of the rustle of chains dragging on the ground
as a new inmate is being checked in with their arms and legs shackled and bound.
A simple adolescent that made a quick choice.
Now in a system and left with no voice.
Once through those doors your will starts to weaken
and your pride is broken.
No one around to listen and truthful words gone unspoken...
See only a handful of us will stay out of the pen
but the system is broken and the others will be back again.
Now do you hear it?

Hello! My name is Morgan Kesseli & I joined MIO on March 1st as the Finance & Administration Manager, but you’ll see me around often!

I have a background in business administration & management but I also experienced youth incarceration when I was a teenager and know what it feels like to be inside the walls of Long Creek.

I am so excited to be here to share my personal & professional experiences and to try to make a difference for our youth!
