A Call to Action
“So often we talk about systems change in meetings and conferences, but we do that far removed from the actual people with lived experience. Your team broke down that barrier and reminded everyone in that room yesterday why we are doing child advocacy work in the first place. Every single one of those young people have a story to tell ”
Day of Empathy
Maine Inside Out was Maine's named host of The Day of Empathy, coordinated by #cut50, a national day of action to generate empathy for the millions of Americans impacted by the criminal justice system. On March 5th, organizations in all 50 states activated for a single day of action to spotlight local efforts that highlight the urgency of criminal justice reform. Check out the photo gallery of MIO’s performance at the Maine State House here.

““All I got is time.” “I’m sure the moon is beautiful if only I could see it.” Those were some of the lines that really stuck with me. When I think about incarceration, I rationalize in my head. I think it is probably not that bad and might teach people a lesson. This made me realize how wrong I am. Thinking about someone my age or younger not being able to see the moon and sun as they please, not given sources of purpose, not being able to be in the loving embrace of their parents, just breaks my heart. Keep doing your best to stay positive in the midst of such horrible oppression. This system is utter stupidity and I’m sorry.”

“LOVE was a word repeated over and over tonight, but it was not the word LOVE that impacted me tonight but rather the presence of it on this stage”
